Sadly, there is not much to see right now at Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve unless you want to go diving! The existing Visitor Center was severely damaged by Hurricane Maria in 2017 and apparently is not being rebuilt since the park brochure shows a "future contact station" near the Columbus Landing point on the western side of the park. The park features underwater coral reefs and canyons, along with the bay for which it is named.

At this time, there are no facilities such as campgrounds, picnic areas, or restrooms in the park, and no hiking trails on the portions of the park on land. For those with scuba gear, there is an abundance of life in the water, both fish and coral. Over 400 species of fish may be found in the coral reefs.

In addition, a canyon over 350 feet deep runs to the northwest, connecting to the 18,000-foot-deep Virgin Island Trough. It was created 30,000 years ago during the last ice age when ocean levels were lower.

For now, we had to be content with a few views of the bay and a visit to the Columbus Landing Site.
