Great Egg Harbor National Scenic and Recreational River is somewhat unique within the National Park Service. NPS has almost no presence in the area! Passport stamps and NPS "Unigrid" brochures are available at the Warren E Fox Nature Center - part of the Atlantic County Park system. There is no sign that I could find, so no sign photo.
Much of the land along the river is private, so even getting a glimpse of this river is difficult. I did so at a couple of locations where small park units existed, usually next to bridges.
To be honest, I do not see what made this a "Scenic" river. Granted I did not get a canoe and paddle several miles of the river, but if most of what I would see are backyards, that's not my idea of National Scenic.
I did get a few photos of the South River, a tributary of Great Egg Harbor River, which was fairly scenic. And I appreciate that some habitats are protected with the designation. But since much of the river's course is administered by state and local park systems, that protection would still be there.
Nonetheless, I did visit the river at multiple locations.
