UPDATE: Amache was designated an official site in February, 2024. I have changed it to an official visit, even though I was there before it was so designated.

This is an NPS unit in development, so it does not yet count as official.

Amache is one of those historic places one wishes did not need to exist. It was the location of an American concentration camp, where U.S. citizens were forcibly taken from their homes and confined because of from where their ancestors came.

Today, very little is left. A few buildings remain and signs mark the location of others. It's currently maintained by a local private organization who run a nice museum in the nearby town. Hopefully the Park Service will be able to help improve the grounds as places like this need to be remembered.
