This was an interesting "National Park" unit, sitting in the mountains of the Maryland panhandle. Even its designation - "Park", just "Park" is unique in the NPS system.
It far more resembles a state park, and it abuts a large Maryland State Park to its south. The park lays atop some heavily wooded hills. Within the park are picnic areas, a campground, and lots of hiking trails.
Oh, and Camp David, the President's retreat, is also located in the park. How does one know where it is? Watch for the signs on the road to "Keep Moving, No Stopping, No Photos, No Looking" for a hint! Its actual entry is a very nondescription sideroad with no signs except "Do not enter".
Originally built by make-work projects of the Roosevelt administration, the park is popular now with day visitors who come to enjoy to quietness of the woods. I wish I had more time to explore, but neede to move on the my next stop.
