Mount Rushmore is a rather interesting unit of the National Park system. It is an extremely popular site (we arrived before 8:00 and by the time we left less than two hours later, it was already crowded). Yet there really isn't much to do other than look upon the four presidents carved into the mountain.
There are a few trails one can hike around the area, and the visitor center has nice exhibits about the construction of the memorial as well as biographies of the men featured. There is also a short video on the history of Mount Rushmore that we watched.
We had a beautiful morning giving us a deep blue sky as a backdrop behind the carvings. After a trip to the gift store, though, we decided there wasn't much else to see or do, and headed to our next destination.
