I had originally allowed 5-6 hours to visit Waco Mammoth National Monument, but it really only took a few hours to see just about all there was. It was a beautiful winter day (temps in the 50s) so I decided to seek out a state park in which I could just relax for a bit.

I found Fort Boggy State Park not far off my intended route for later in the day, and after grabbing lunch in Waco, headed for it. There was a small fee to enter the park, which was not a problem.

The park itself is centered around a very small lake, created when Boggy Creek was dammed. There is no history per se here - no fort remnants or reconstructions. Today it is purely a recreational park with picnicking, swimming, boating, and hiking on 3.5 miles of trails.

The park is named for a fort built around 1840 to protect local settlers from Indian attacks. Within 10 years, the need for the fort was gone, and it fell into disrepair, and eventually disappeared altogether.

As a state park today, it made for a relaxing few afternoon hours doing nothing but enjoying the outside, before I headed on to the night's accommodations.
