(Southeast Virginia, DelMarVa peninsula)

A consolidation of original groups 7, 8 and 9 resulted in the elimination of group 7 and expansion of this group.

This group now includes sites around, but not inside, Washington D.C., plus all of southeastern Virginia and Maryland.

I will drive up I-95 to start at Petersburg, Virginia then circle around D.C. before starting Group 8 inside Washington.

Included in this group are several key Civil War battlefields, along with several early colonial sites including Jamestown and Yorktown.

There are a few sites where scenery trumps history, including Assateague Island National Seashore on Maryland's Atlantic coast, known for its wild horses.
