There are 23 official units in Alaska, but several are two-for-one: a National Park and a National Preserve. Seven such locations exist meaning there are only 16 sites to visit.

That, however, will still be a huge challenge as several of the parks are not easily accessible. Very few can be reached by car and some require air transportation or a long hike.

None the less, I'll research the best way to visit as many sites as I can. The majority of sites protect the fragile and scenic lands in the north and west, and along the southern coast. Denali contains the highest mountain peak in North America. Kenai Fjords NP is home to a rugged coastline along the Gulf of Alaska.

Klondike Gold Rush NHP commemorates the gold rush of the late 1800s, while the Bering Land Bridge NHP makes one ponder the time when people walked from Asia to North America.

I anticipate that this group will be the hardest to complete. It will be one of the last groups as I will procrastinate figuring out all of the logistics as long as I can!
