Group: 21

(Nebraska, southern Wyoming, Idaho, northern Utah, Ohio)

Visited from Jun 2, 2024 to Jun 16, 2024 in Trip 13

This group may be spread over the most miles of all of them. Starting in southwestern Minnesota, I will ultimately reach the Canadian border in western Montana after dipping into Colorado.

Pipestone NM is one of three sites in this group that were originally in group 20 but dropped due to time constraints. The other two are Little Bighorn Battlefield NM and Bighorn Canyon NRA.

The Missouri National Recreational River and the Niobrara NSR stride the Nebraska-South Dakota border while Scotts Bluff and Agate Fossil Beds National Monuments await my visit in western Nebraska.

Fort Laramie NHS and Fort Butte NM sit in southeastern and southwestern Wyoming respectively, though between them in Colorado is Dinosaur NM. A swing through northern Utah visits Timamogos Caves NM and Golden Spike NHP, where the first transcontinental railroad was completed.

Swinging north into Idaho, several scenic and natural sites are clustered in the southern part of the state, along with a WWII concentration camp. The group finishes in Montana with a battlefield, a ranch, and Glacier National Park, followed by a long trip home.

Read my blog entry previewing this trip.

Park units in this group

Click on any of the parks listed below to see the page specific to that park.

Park pages for unvisited sites include information about the unit and a link to the NPS website's page.

For sites that I have visited, the park page will have my comments about the site, photos and links to both the NPS official page and my blog entry for that park visit.

The interactive map to the right shows the location of each unit. You can zoom in and move around on the map. The rectangle icon in the top right will expand the map to full screen. Clicking on any unit in the map will open a small information window. The map and icons on it are based on the same information found in the Google Earth KML files, which you can download from the Home page.
