The plan was simple. On Monday, drive to Orlando and stay overnight near the airport. Tuesday, up at 2:00 am to get to the car into long-term parking and get to the airport in time for a 6:30 fight to Des Moines. On Wednesday, pick up a rental car and load up. Finally, on Thursday, head out on the road trip with my long-time friend.
The reality ended up going a bit differently. Monday went per plan. But Tuesday I awoke to a very upset stomach. Some Imodium was able to help that, and flights went okay, except I was developing a nagging cough and sore throat.
Wednesday I awoke to a burning sore throat, and bad cough. We decided to delay picking up the rental and I headed to the local urgent care.
Verdict: COVID.
We canceled the rental and I canceled motel reservations through the weekend. Since they caught the virus early, I was able to get a new prescription drug that will supposedly reduce the symptoms. In addition, current guidelines are to quarantine five days, not 14.
So, at this point, we are going to play by ear. We may be able to the second half of the trip, which includes Yellowstone.
I will keep the blog updated.
